Build your oun HHO fuel cell

Get ready to take everything you know about hydrogen technology as 'half truth'!  From the number of questions, phone calls, and e-mails I've received about hydrogen fuel technology in my 20 years of experience, the majority of people really don't know the true facts about this easily obtainable energy.  For starters, lets talk about the gasoline combustion engine.  As we all know, these engines were designed to run on gasoline (or diesel).  Now lets recall, gasoline is only 13% fuel efficient and diesel is 17% - while 26% of that fuel is being burnt up in your catalytic converter.  The goal with hydrogen is to get fuel burning efficiently and to get fuel emission levels reduced to almost 0%.  Lets put some factors into this equation.  Not every vehicle on the road is exactly the same - we have different make and models, engines from 4 cylinders to V12s, rotary, diesel, fuel injected, carburetors, etc.  Given that, there is a NEED for different size hydrogen fuel cell generators based upon the fuel delivery systems. 

 Lets give a few examples!

One: 1969 Chevy Step-side 4-wheel drive K20 with a 292 straight six with a one barrel carburetor.  This vehicle didn't require a lot of extra hydrogen add-ons to reach its maximum fuel efficiency.  We went from 14 to 25MPG with a few basic adjustments to the engine and carburetor, using a unit that put out less than a liter of hydrogen fuel per minute!  Cost was a little over $400 for the entire system.

Two:  1996 Dodge Ram Charger with a 318 V8 that came out right as all that computer bull $&!# started.  We used a hydrogen fuel cell generator that produced 1.25 liters per minute.  Beforehand, I had changed the 02 sensors with performance upgrades and extenders, added a speed control resistor, and gutted the catalytic converter.  I also added a fuel heater, magnets to the fuel line, changed to high performance spark plugs, added an h-pipe with 3 inch straight pipe all the way out the back, and made it an off-road vehicle.  As it always runs with high RPMs, these upgrades took it from 12 to 18MPG but I don't take it higher than 55mph.  This is a typical Florida mud truck!  Cost was under $300 just in hydrogen upgrades - doing all the work myself.

Three: 2005 F-250 Turbo Diesel.  We used an aftermarket hydrogen fuel cell generator system that cost $600.  Took it for a performance tuning on a dynomometer for $500.  Bought a handheld tuner for the computer, had it reprogrammed from our dyno test so the engine would better receive the hydrogen  for another $500.  Took it from 17 to 28.5MPG doing the speed limit without running the AC.  Cost was over $1600 with all the extras included.  Remember, this was a completely custom performance tune.

Four: 2005 Mazda 3 with a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder engine.  This is going to be our newest test vehicle to find out the benefits of each individual add-on.  Using a similar but smaller hydrogen generator than the F-250, took it from 22 to 25MPG for only $400.  The best way to approach this low fuel mileage increase is by getting a diagnostic reading with the hydrogen system on - and off - to make adjustments to trick the computer to compensate for proper fuel delivery.  However, using many of the products out on the market, you can really help the vehicle receive great performance!  You can learn more about our progress by buying our book.

Five: 1996 Kenworth Aerodyn.  This vehicle sees an average of 5MPG as it's constantly under heavy load.  Using a much larger generator, without doing ANY adjustments, we received a 2MPG gain.  This is a significant gain when you have a 200 gallon tank on each side, giving you new range of 2,800 miles from 2,000 miles.  With diesel at $5.00 a gallon, that's a $200 savings at the pump!

Backed by a company with over 9,000 installs of hydrogen fuel cell generators, we have been able to gather information on a number of vehicles outside of our experience.  We haven't seen a vehicle with a new generator system that magically began receiving 95% efficiency after receiving the additional hydrogen without needing further modifications for the conversion.

Lets end this by looking at an oxygen acetylene cutting torch.  When you have too much acetylene, you end up getting that long, dirty, useless flame with black carbon rolling off of it.  Now consider your engine that is between 13-17% fuel efficient compared to this torch, as when you turn down the acetylene, getting the right amount of oxygen, you have a potent cutting flame.  This same theory applies to hydrogen.  Your goal is to determine the appropriate amount of hydrogen to supplement your engine to achieve the highest fuel efficient burn.  Most people think that more hydrogen means more mileage gain, but it only gives you that long, dirty carbon burn - in turn decreasing your mileage gain as your vehicle is programmed to dump more gasoline into the fuel lines.  Each make and model is different and the key to your success is finding the system that will give you the proper hydrogen-to-fuel ratio.
